Aims and scope

BMC Pulmonary Medicine is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that considers articles on all aspects of the prevention, diagnosis and management of pulmonary and associated disorders, as well as related molecular genetics, pathophysiology, and epidemiology.

Our journal welcomes submissions covering a range of related areas, including:

  • Asthma and allergic disorders
  • COPD, occupational lung disease, and smoking-related disorders
  • Lung cancer
  • Pulmonary infection, rare and idiopathic lung diseases

Our readers are also interested in the epidemiology of pulmonary disorders and we encourage submissions dealing with pulmonary critically ill patients describing respiratory critical care. Furthermore, we consider articles on the molecular mechanisms and biological basis of non-cancer pulmonary disorders, including in vivo and in vitro studies, pulmonary physiology and experimental spirometry.

BMC Pulmonary Medicine does not make editorial decisions on the basis of the interest of a study or its likely impact. Studies must be scientifically valid; for research articles this includes a scientifically sound research question, the use of suitable methods and analysis, and following community-agreed standards relevant to the research field. Specific criteria for other article types can be found in the submission guidelines.
